Call for papers – Ceramics in all their forms (1830–1930)

Uses, practices and representations of ceramics in Belgium
Study Days – Brussels and Mariemont, 12–13 March 2027
What role did ceramics play in Belgian society between 1830 and 1930? What diverse uses, practices and meanings were associated with ceramic objects during this period?
Organised as part of the exhibition Le Magasin de Porcelaine, on display at the Domain & Royal Museum of Mariemont from 26 September 2026 to 9 May 2027, these study days explore the diversity of Belgian ceramic production, focusing on the contexts in which objects were made, used and received.
Presentations may address the everyday and social uses of ceramics, their technical and industrial applications, ceramics in public spaces, the relationship between art and industry, and the role of manufacturers, workshops and commercial networks. Interdisciplinary approaches are also welcome.
