This story is told in Vietnam and is an attempt at explaining why there are so many different groups living in the region. In fact, the entire Southeast Asian region is a patchwork of languages and cultures.
During this tour, students learn to recognize the typical stylistic features of regional art such as symbolic use of colour and the facial features. They understand the influences of major neighbours like China and India and of great stories such as the Ramayana and the teachings of the Buddha. They also examine what is unique to each subregion: Vietnamese bronze rain drums, Indonesian stilt houses and batik textiles, and Thai temple paintings. A fascinating visit to a colourful part of the world!
