The Merovingians

Guided visit for grades 4 to 6

About 1,500 years ago, the Merovingians lived where you and I live today: in Belgium and the surrounding area. We know this because archaeologists have investigated quite a few burial sites from this period, where they found beautiful and interesting objects. These objects tell us about the daily lives of our distant ancestors: bowls and drinking cups, weapons, jewellery and handy tweezers for trimming your beard. Based on the reconstruction of several graves, the students will search for the meaning of the objects and learn more about the lifestyle, skills and beliefs of the Merovingians.
