
The Belgian Blue Shield Committee and its partners invite you to a study day dedicated to the current challenges of cultural heritage and collections. This in-person event aims to foster a shared reflection on the professional, ethical, and human responsibilities of heritage experts and institutions.
It is intended for heritage professionals, including those working in libraries, archives, and museums, as well as academics, students, and anyone interested in the protection and safeguarding of cultural heritage.
Program
- Morning: Recent developments in the fight against illicit trafficking of cultural heritage, featuring contributions from Belgian law enforcement, ICOM International, European institutions, and research projects addressing looting, theft, and the movement of cultural objects.
- Afternoon: Discussions on the safeguarding of movable heritage during armed conflicts, with shared perspectives and lessons learned from both recent and more distant history.
- Screening: Belgian premiere of the award-winning docudrama The Oath of Cyriac (France/Syria, 2021), about the emergency evacuation of the collections of the Aleppo National Museum.
