This autumn, the Art & History Museum presents the exhibition Inuit: Impressions from the Canadian Far North. Through graphic works and sculptures, contemporary Inuit artists invite us into their world, sharing their memories and exploring the challenges they face today.

Brussels-based artist Anouck Thibaut will be presenting her work Inukshuk exclusively selected for the occasion, while the artists of Créahm Bxl are preparing a series of special interventions.

Meet the curator: Meet the people behind the exhibition Inuit. Impressions from the Canadian Far North. Curator and conservator Serge Lemaître and co-curators Anne-Françoise Martin and Florence Cosme share their story of how the exhibition came to life. Why were certain works selected? How did the exhibition concept evolve and which stories lie behind its presentation? Throughout this exclusive tour, discover the exhibition in a different way, through the eyes of those who brought it to life.

Whispers from beneath the ice: For the Inuit, stories are much more than just a way to pass the time. They bring people together, fill the silences during long hunting expeditions, and pass on important values and life lessons from one generation to the next. Some stories are made up, whilst others are as old as the stones themselves. Stroll past the unique graphic works of modern Inuit artists and let yourself be swept away by a carefully curated selection of stories. Experience a world brought to life through storytelling, where the boundaries between the visible and the invisible are blurred and where humans and animals live together in harmony.

Open Atelier Ouvert: Modern Inuit art is characterised by clean lines, simplified silhouettes, contrasting shapes and a rich imagination. Take a seat at the studio tables in the exhibition and experiment with colours and shapes. Get creative with watercolour pencils: a touch of pigment and a little water to create soft colour gradients and striking accents. Or try your hand at a simple block print using a woodcut and watercolour.

Anouck Thibaut – Inukshuk: A lifelong fascination with the polar regions and Inuit culture lies at the heart of Anouck Thibaut’s artistic practice. Since beginning her studies in Digital Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ixelles (Brussels) in 2019, the inuksuk -a human-shaped stone structure that serves as a landmark in the vast Arctic landscape and stands as a powerful symbol of Inuit culture- has become the guiding thread throughout her work.
Through digital media, her installations invite viewers on a journey into the world of the Inuit while simultaneously opening a space for their own imagination. They explore themes of orientation, memory, human connection, and the relationship between people and the natural world.
