About the activity

This summer, step out into the world without leaving Brussels! In the Art & History Museum you will travel to the icy North to marvel at the impressive indigenous Canadian totem poles. From there on to warmer climes, to South America to wonder at the mighty Mayan and Aztec objects. Then, the journey continues Eastwards to listen to the rhythms of an Indonesian gamelan, or to see intricate Vietnamese pottery, a serene Chinese bodhisattva or smiling Hindu gods.

The Royal Military Museum also cares for objects from the four corners of the earth. Starting in the aviation hall, follow in the footsteps of the soldiers that were deployed far away from home. Jump from Mexico to the Middle East, from WWII Japan tot imperial Russia to find out more about the people that lived and worked in times of conflict.

This guided tour combines a visit to the American and Asian Art galleries and the Royal Military Museum. It will take you from one museum to the next through a hidden passageway connecting the two. Be warned – there are quite a lot of stairs to climb, but the reward, a spectacular panorama over the site and Brussels from the very top of the triumphal arch, is well worth it!

Come face to face (that’s right, closer than 1.5m is allowed!) with the masterpieces of the American and Asian art collection using five looking cards with fun exercises and information for young and old. The adventure continues at the neighbouring Royal Military Museum where the Sabena airplane has stops in Mexico, Algeria, Russia and Japan. Here, too, you can enjoy a different view on a number of extraordinary museum pieces, “armed” with five looking cards.

You will receive these looking cards upon presentation of a valid ticket on the day of your guided tour.

- Wear comfortable shoes, there are about 100 steps to climb!

- Choose your starting point: either the Art & History Museum, or the Royal Military Museum. Please check the information on your ticket before starting.

- Left items in the cloak room? The tour ends in another museum, so you will have to go back round the outside.
